Support WUIS
Digital Conversion
What digital means for WUIS'...
A digital signal allows WUIS to split its bandwidth and offer more than one channel on its digital signal.
Because of the wonderful support we have received from our listeners, we are now transmitting on three separate digital channels, as well as the traditional analog FM signal, from the WUIS antenna near Mechanicsburg, Illinois.
- 91.9-1 WUIS NPR (HD1) is a duplicate of the current WUIS analog programming with higher audio quality.
- 91.9-2 WUIS Xponential (HD2) is a mix of roots-rock, folk, Americana and more.
- 91.9-3 WUIS Classic (HD3) is a dedicated, 24/7 classical music service with local performances included on ocassion.
Please support a digital broadcasting...
WUIS' digital conversion was made possible because of listeners' contributions. Nearly 250 people made additional gifts beyond their annual membership contribution to get started on this long term project. Now, you too can support the availability of more diverse public radio programmings, whether you’ll choose to tune to the main NPR channel or our Xponential or Classic music channels, or toggle between the choices. Your gift today can keep us moving forward with the funding needed to purchase or create additional programs to expand our digital service.
$84,848.00
That's how much WUIS owes on our digital loan. Nearly $25,000 in interest payments can be saved by paying off the loan five years early. WUIS initiated a loan in 2008 to start the digital conversion project and qualify for federal matching funds. It matures in July of 2018.
Please consider giving and additional gift of $45, or more, to retire the digital loan early. If every member gave this additional $45, we'd payoff the loan early. We hope you consider it a gift to yourself as well as to WUIS– and maybe a gift to those that will follow you. Thanks so much!
This is a transition period, just like when FM came along...
Digital radio is in its infancy. Public radio stations have been at the forefront of this new technology, because we realize how our listeners will benefit. It's so new that digital radios have only been on the market for a few years. We envision in the near future that digital radios will become standard in cars and people will transition them into their homes, just like DVD players have replaced many VHS (or Beta!) players.
