RETIREMENT
Is it true Tom and Ray are retiring?
Yes. Tom is turning 75, and they’ve been doing the show for 35 years (the last 25 on NPR), so they’ve decided it’s time to stop recording new shows. They’re planning to oversee the production of the ongoing series that’ll be produced from their archives. They’ll also still be posting on their web site and answering car questions in their weekly column, among other activities.

When?
As of October, 2012.

Why?
They’ve been doing this for a long time, 35 years, and they just feel with the show celebrating its 25th year on NPR, it’s time.

What will happen with the show?
It's going to continue, based on Car Talk's amazing archives. The guys have recorded over 1,200 shows, and their producers are going to mine them and provide us with sort of a “best of” Car Talk series every week. You’ll hear the best calls, laughs, and puzzlers from the last 25 years. So you’ll continue hearing Car Talk here just like you do now.
