Inmate Escapes From Macon Co. Jail

A man about to be sent to prison for aggravated battery has escaped from the Macon County Jail in Decatur.  

The (Decatur) Herald & Review reports ( ) that 25-year-old Schuyler McCoy escaped Wednesday and police have begun a search.  

Macon County Sheriff Tom Schneider tells the newspaper that McCoy escaped around 1:30 p.m. after identifying himself to correctional officers as a different inmate who was in the process of being released on bond.  

U.S. marshals, Decatur police and Macon County Sheriff's officers are seeking the fugitive.  
They're asking anyone with information to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 423-8477.  
McCoy is described as a white male who is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 150 pounds with brown hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.
